Constructing furniture encounters many of the same problems as designing a building. Material, cost, design, and perhaps most importantly detailed connections all must be considered to create furniture.
As a student, most of what is experienced with architecture is not built and does not need to be as conscious of details for that purpose.
Furniture on the other hand, is a great outlet to see a project from begining to end. To understand detailing of joints in furniture is to begin to understand the complexity of detail in architecture.
